Here are some tips for preparing your items for storage at River Landing Mini Storage:
• Make up an inventory of your stored items and keep it in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box.
• Plan your storage space - place the items you will need to access most frequently in the front. Do not stack boxes too high and never stack heavy boxes on lighter ones.
• Allow for walkways in your storage space.
• Label boxes for easy identification so you can find them faster.
• Tables and other furniture pieces with removable legs can be broken down to maximize space.
• Dishes, glasses and other breakable items should be wrapped in paper or bubble wrap and packed in sturdy boxes.
• Stored furniture with drawers can be utilized as storage places for pictures, china, silverware, clothes, etc. Suitcases also make great storage containers.
• Larger appliances such as washers and dryers can be utilized as storage places for blankets, towels, clothes, etc.
• Cover upholstered furniture with sheets or blankets to protect from dust.
• Sofas and loveseats can be stored on end to maximize space. Use the loose sofa cushions wrapped in plastic bags to fill in the space between furniture pieces.
• Wood furniture should be waxed prior to storage and covered with a blanket or cloth rather than plastic.
• Disassemble bed frames and tie them together. Put loose screws and hardware in sandwich bags and tape them to the frame.
• Store mattresses in mattress storage bags and stand them up to maximize space.
• Anything which might rust should be wiped with a little oil prior to storing. Oiled items should be packaged so the oil does not come in contact with other stored items.
• Hoses should be drained, coiled and tied securely.
• Drain fuel and oil from machinery.
• Pack books in small boxes because of their weight.
• Important papers should be packed in sealed plastic bags.
• Tape electrical cords to the back of machines to prevent plug damage.
